Course Description

This training offers a foundational overview of trauma, how it’s stored in the brain and body, and how substances affect trauma symptoms. It explores motivations behind addiction-related behaviors, compulsions, biological predispositions, and the culture of addiction and treatment. Emphasizing a shift from a pathogenic to a salutogenic approach, it also reviews tools and strategies to enhance trauma-informed care.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will demonstrate an enhanced focus on self-regulation and engage in practice of self-regulation tools to be utilized for nervous system regulation.

  • Participants will demonstrate understanding of medicated assisted treatment, peer support and recovery support groups and be able to discuss how these treatments and tools impact addiction.

  • Participants will discuss how trauma is reflective of changes in the brain, nervous system and body and explore how the threat response system changes the chemistry of the body thus impacting thinking, feeling, and behaving.

  • Participants will explore Adverse Childhood Experiences data and understand impact of ACEs on health outcomes and adaptive/mitigating behaviors through creation of procedural memory.

  • Participants will be able to explain how to support resiliency and competency in recovery from trauma and addiction, and how to support resiliency and competency via treatment delivery and assessment.

  • Participants will identify evidence-based treatment interventions for substance use disorders/addiction and co-occurring disorders and explore use of active ingredients approach for trauma healing.

  • Participants will understand cultural humility and cultural competency with expanded ability to offer services to diverse and minority populations through trauma informed and inclusive treatment approaches.

  • Participants will differentiate between Salutogenic and Pathogenic approaches to treatment and utilize case studies to gain a better understanding of positive treatment outcomes using a Salutogenic model.

Lindsay Rothschild, LCSW, CCTS, TCYM, RYT 200, and EMDRIA Certified EMDR practitioner, is a seasoned licensed clinical social worker with 15 years of experience. She earned her master’s degree in social work from Arizona State University and holds certifications in Trauma-Conscious Yoga Method™, Substance Abuse Professional, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. As the owner/operator of Roots to Rise PLLC and Clinical Director at Seven Arrows Recovery Center, Lindsay blends body-centered practices with conventional psychotherapeutic techniques. Her leadership helped Seven Arrows Recovery achieve the first-ever Forward-Facing Freedom TraumAddiction Certification. A member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Lindsay fosters engaging and collaborative learning environments.

Course Refund/Cancellation Policy:

We do not allow for refunds to occur after the completion of the first module of any of our courses. 

  • You will have a 14 day window in which to make a request for a refund, providing you have not completed any of the modules in a given course.

  • Refund requests that come after 14 days of the initial purchases or that come after completing any of the modules will not be approved. 
  • There is an $8 Processing Fee for every refund that we process.


Certification Refund/Cancellation Policy:

At Trauma Institute International, we strive to provide a fair and transparent certification process. Please review our refund policy carefully before making a purchase.

Certification Completion Deadline

  • You have 90 days from the date of purchase to complete the certification process.
  • If you do not complete the required steps within 90 days, your fee is forfeited, and you will need to repurchase to restart the process.

Refund Requests

  • Refunds can be requested within 14 days of purchase.
  • Once you open the examination, refunds are no longer available.

Certification Eligibility & Refunds

  • If you apply for certification but do not qualify, you will not be refunded if you have taken the exam.
  • If you apply for certification, do not take the exam, and do not qualify, you will be refunded and withdrawn from the process.

Processing Fees

  • All refunds will have an $8.00 processing fee deducted from the total refund amount.
