Course Description

Continuing Education Hours: 3

This course offers mental health professionals a comprehensive, trauma-informed framework for understanding grief in its many forms; emotional, physical, neurological, and cultural. Through myth-busting insights, nervous system regulation strategies, and distinctions between support and treatment, clinicians learn to hold compassionate, personalized space for clients navigating loss and post-traumatic growth.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate between types of grief, including disenfranchised, ambiguous, anticipatory, and prolonged grief disorder.

  • Identify key factors that influence the grieving process, such as cultural expectations, relationship to the deceased, and social support.

  • Recognize the emotional, physical, and cognitive impacts of grief, and how they manifest in clinical settings.

  • Understand the role of the nervous system in grief, and apply regulation techniques to support client resilience.

  • Distinguish between grief support and clinical treatment, emphasizing personalized, non-pathologizing approaches.

  • Explore the concept of post-traumatic growth, and guide clients in integrating loss through creative and reflective practices.
